Recursive is an AI consulting company based in Japan working on developing solutions to some of these challenging problems. We collaborate with large Japanese enterprises to create innovative solutions to sustainability challenges, merging in our expertise in AI research and our client's domain knowledge. Our development projects focus around the main themes of improving efficiency, accelerating innovation, risk mitigation and better work and education.
Recursive is founded by Tiago Ramalho and Katsutoshi Yamada. Tiago was a Senior Research Engineer at Google Deepmind and Lead Research scientist at Cogent labs and brings years of machine learning expertise to the company. Katsutoshi is a serial entrepreneur and AI expert with experience in developing and establishing innovative business models in Japan and abroad.
Founded in 2020, we are now looking to grow and expand our impact further, building on previous successes. One of many initiatives we are currently pursuing is a system to optimize irrigation of peatlands in Indonesia, helping to prevent forest fires and maximize carbon absorption. The role
As a Principal Systems Architect at Recursive, you will lead the design and architecture of complex, end-to-end systems for cutting-edge AI research and development projects. Your role will involve not just backend and frontend systems but also integrating machine learning components, ensuring that all layers work seamlessly together. You'll be responsible for client engagement projects, collaborating closely with both internal teams and client engineering teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
We are looking for a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in software engineering and system architecture. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in high-level strategic planning but also enjoys diving into technical details when necessary.
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or have equivalent industry experience.
- Have 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on system architecture.
- Demonstrate expertise in architecting and managing both backend (e.g., cloud infrastructure, databases) and frontend (e.g., web technologies) systems.
- Be experienced in integrating machine learning components into broader systems and pipelines.
- Have significant experience working with Cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure) technologies and possess relevant certifications.
- Be familiar with DevOps practices and tools, and capable of setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines.
- Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively with client engineering teams.
- Be passionate about system design, scalability, and reliability, with a keen attention to detail.
- Be fluent in both English and Japanese.
